Trela is an AI-powered platform designed to help users discover unique travel destinations based on their personal preferences. It’s not about booking flights or hotels. it’s about sparking inspiration and aspiration through personalized discovery.

The Challenge

The user for Trela are young adults aged 25–45 who are craving authentic, off-the-beaten-path experiences. They’re tired of mainstream travel sites that showcase the same overdone tourist spots. The challenge was for me  to create a fresh visual identity that felt unique, inspiring, and far removed from the cookie-cutter travel platforms.

Wireframes and mockups iterations

The layout needed to be clean and functional while sparking curiosity. Early wireframes prioritized clarity and user flow. Based on feedback, I adjusted the hierarchy, moving benefit statements higher up the page and placing testimonials further down. This decsion helped to support better scanning behavior and balance the composition visually.

Moodboard

The visual direction focused on immersive, authentic photography locations that feel bold and unique, yet calm and inviting, with plenty of open space. To evoke a sense of discovery and freedom, I used nature-based imagery that feels both peaceful and adventurous.

Style Tile

The color palette is rooted in nature: soft blues and greens convey calm, while a bold green is used strategically for calls to action. A design system including a set of icon is made to maintain consistency and supported rapid iteration, aligning visuals with functionality.

Careful attention to detail from typography to responsiveness enhanced both aesthetics and usability across devices.

Design Direction

For the hero image, I explored integrating large typography directly into the photo to draw users in and create a sense of presence as if they’re stepping into the scene.

The challenge was finding a nature photo that worked well with oversized text without feeling cluttered. After testing several photo options, I chose a serene lakeside scene with strong horizontal lines and reflections featuring a couple in a boat on what feels like a quiet, personal journey.

I selected the Outfit typeface for its clean, contemporary style and strong legibility. The design was later optimized for mobile.

Form Design

A custom desktop and mobile form designed to match the brand’s tone. Knowing that filling out forms can be a pain point, I made the experience simple, light, and enjoyable both in tone and interaction.

The launch exceeded expectations. In hindsight, I’d refine the design library process, but I’m proud of the impact and outcome.
